Pelvic Exams

I had my yearly pelvic exam about one week ago and it has set me back.  I had been doing very well for several weeks until my exam.  I am now experiencing burning.  Has anyone had problems after having a pap smear or a pelvic exam?  I do not know why I am taking so long to get back on track.  Thanks, esalinas.

I put my exam off for 7 months because I was so afraid I'd have a set back. I finally got brave enough this month and had it done. I know it is important to have this kind of check up. I was very clear with my doctor about my IC and how anything new might "set me off". I brought jojoba oil her her to use and the gloves that she used were powder and latex free. I did not have a bad reaction. Did your doctor use any gels, lotions, powdered gloves, etc. on you?  Sorry to you had this set back. Hope you are things settle down soon. Tammy

She knew about the IC and tried to be careful.  I did not think to ask her to use jojoba, and she did use the gel that they normally use.  I will know better next time.  Thanks for the tip.  esalinas

I too had a setback in February due to a pelvic exam.  This time the Doctor used nylon gloves instead of latex and no problems.

Thanks Kristie.  Now that you mention it, I do remember that I had a reaction to latex bandages a couple of years ago.  I remembered to tell my dentist about it, but not my doctor.  How long did it take you to get back on track?  I was doing so much better for the last 4 months.  I thought I was getting really ahead in this long road.  Well, this certainly was a lesson.  I really need to consider everything that touches my body.  Thanks for your input.  It makes sense.   esalinas

Thank you for posting on this & for people's responses/suggestions.  I have my exam coming up & was scared about it as I'm already in a setback, so I will gratefully use this info, as I know many others will.  Esalinas - I am so so sorry to hear that this of all things set you back - how unfair and frustrating. I hope it is a small comfort that just in posting this issue you have helped me and others to avoid potential harm.
If anyone else has any words of advice re: pelvic exams, it would be most welcome.
