Chlorine vs. salt water pools

I've been thinking about converting my swimming pool to salt water.  Does anyone know if that is a healthier way?  My pool man said that the salt water conversion cells use electricity to produce the chlorine when they interact with the salt.  Does that mean it won't be healthier either?

Hi Peggy,

I don't know about the specifics of how salt water pools work, but I can swim in a salt water pool with no reactions or flares.  I have been swimming in one for a 2 weeks  with no problem.  I have never read that salt water pools were unhealthy, so it would be news to me if they were. Swimming is one of my favorite forms of exercise, so I was finally glad to know that I could safely swim in it.

Open, vented pools are better than closed ones. Salt combines with bacteria and converts to chloramines. They are controversial but so are many things!

I believe there are some old threads on here about salt water pools.  In them, I think it's mentioned that Dr. Brizman has one...I might be mistaken but I think that was mentioned.  I would talk to her about it.  Considering it's a big expense.
