I have had IC for 14 months and have been under treatment with Dr. Brizman for 7 months.  I had been doing great for about 3 months when suddenly my symptoms intensified and developed new ones.  I have read about die off, but I am not sure that is what is happening to me.  Dr. Brizman (who is great) reassures me that all will be well and is working to get the right protocol for me.  I feel fine for a few hours then I slip again.  This has been going on for three weeks. Have setbacks that have lasted for weeks happened to anyone?  I have spiritual faith and faith in Dr. Brizman, but I would like to know how some of you handle problems like this.   ESalinas

I have had many setbacks during treatment--some have lasted days, some weeks, and a few times, months. During those times I would question everything and wonder if I would ever be well and if the treatment was the wrong one. Hang in there. One thing I can say: no matter how bad the setbacks were symptom wise or how long they lasted, THEY ALWAYS WENT AWAY. That fact got me through. I would always tell myself, they always end even if it seems like they won't.

Thanks for your response. I am finally getting better (just in time to get back to work). Your kind words and encouragement truly did help. It is great to hear from someone who knows what this terrible disease is like. I must admit that after this last flair, I thought I had hit a wall and that nothing would help. But you were right......it went away. I am hoping and praying that the good times will be longer than the bad times for all of us. ESalinas

Hi..I am new to the forum and have been a patient with Matia for 2 weeks. I am not surprised to have a great day, followed by a setback as I realize I am detoxifying and adjusting. But this one puzzles me. Have any of you had lower back pain to such a degree that the back is locked. It's been 3 days of this and am wondering if it's structural or related to treatment. TMJ pain is also very strong...mysterious effects!!!
I am so happy to be here with you all and in Matia's care. It is wonderful to feel less alone with IC..
Thank you to everyone for the forum...lolo

Hi Lolo:

Welcome. I have been seeing Matia for just over three months. You are so right that there are so many mystery affects of this condition. One of my symptoms has been a severely sore tight back and neck. My back was so bad that you could see lumps ( I think from the inflammation). Since being in treatment this has progressively been getting better as Matia said it would. I had been going to accupuncture, massage and also physio. These things do help with some of the pain but I think that it is the treatment that is probably the key and perhaps I have wasted money on the other things. Even though the back pain is getting better, it does pick up when I am getting close to that time of the month which Matia says is due to the hormonal changes. As for your situation as to whether it is structural or not I don't know. Did you do anything to injure yourself? Kriste
