Prilosec

Is this bad for IC? A couple months ago the back of my tongue and throat got really messed up (mostly my tongue!). I thought it was a weird IC symptom that would go away but it didnt.  I finally went to a dr. and she said its not likely, but possibly caused by acid reflux and stomach issues & wants to see if it gets better w/prilosec. If not then see an E.N.T. specialist and maybe get it biopsied. Also said it doesnt look like normal inflamation or canker sores that sometimes accompany IC .  So I'm starting to get a little freaked out by the whole thing! Have any of you experienced anything like this? And is Prilosec bad for IC?

Are you a patient of Matia's?  I don't think she'd be into prilosec.

Hi Tawni! I'm not sure if you are in treatment or not but I do know that many Icers have severe digestion problemsand symptoms that relate to their overall Ic imbalence. It all goes back to the gut being out of proper function. As far as it being something that didn't go away- I've had symptoms that persisted a long time before improving. In general when your body is back in balence than issues like heartburn and acid reflux etc go away. If you are a patient I would absolutely discuss prilosec with Matia. Not only is it crucial that herbs not be mixed out of order- it can be harmful to take certain pharmaceuticals for your treatment process.  There are so many pharmacueticals which can impede your progress in the long term. Maybe it would offer you releif in the short term for the acid reflux or healing the espopahgus but I can't say what effect it has on the bladder.I figured out that doctors haven't seen everything nor do they know everything concerning IC. Hope this is helpful! Thanks! Mary

I took Prilosec for a few months long before I started with Matia.  It did help with the chronic indigestion but did absolutely nothing for my reflux problem.  The drug is hard on the liver, so the doctor ordered blood tests to check my liver every so often.  After about 4 months or so, the doctor took me off the drug.  I still had the same problems as before.  Matia told me that those type of drugs create an alkaline environment and promote yeast problems.  I believe my problems were due to yeast/bacteria because Matia got rid of my indigestion/reflux pretty quickly after I started with her.  Are you a patient of Matia?

That sounds like yeast die off to me what did Matia say? I would take a pict of it and send it to her.

Before finding Matia I took different acid reflux medications and carafate (to coat esphogus and stomach) from heartburn pain.  I remember having some tongue issues and now believe it was yeast.  I've been in treatment with Matia almost 2 years and have improvement in acid reflux and stomach issues.  I get the reflux when having major die-off depending on the formula.  I would try to stay away from acid reflux meds!  Matia is the expert on intestinal health!

I went to another doctor to get a second opinion on my tongue problems...and he said everything was fine! I do get inflamation sometimes, but he said the bumps on the back of my tongue that I was so worried about were normal and not to be worried.  Crazy, the first doctor had me all stressed out!  The acid reflux problem started a few months before I had IC and I've had it off and on since..so I doubt in my case its die-off, but that would be good if it was. I decided against taking the meds for now after reading all your comments. I also cut way back on the carbs which has seemed to help a little..
