Does anyone have experience with making your own kefir? Since i have been on antibiotics for pneumonia (i am off now) I have been dowing probiotics and also drinking kefir every night before bed. I have been reading that the stuff you buy in stores doesn't even come close to the real health benefits of the kefir you make yourself. I have to try and obtain the kefir grains somewhere, but not sure how to do it or how to make it. Anyone have any advice? They say the real stuff you make at home has AMAZING anti candida properties. So... I would like to try it since I feel pretty good just drinking the one from the store, why not up my level of wellness by making my own.
kefir grains
Hi Jeanette - I make kefir at home, and it definitely does a lot more for me than store bought or even Natren. It's made my bloating a lot better. I ordered my grains from Ebay, which I know sounds weird, but they work. Where are you located? I might be able to share some of mine.
Thanks!
Thanks so much for your reply... I actually found a lady in Ohio who ships grains and has a whole instruction booklet and recipe. I really appreciate hearing how it helped you more thant the Natren and also glad to hear about the bloating... I freakin hate that. Here is her website if you are interested: http://www.kefirlady.com/faqaboutkefir.htm If it doesn't work out, maybe I could get grains from you. I am in San Diego. Would love to hear what you do with the kefir. Apparently there are a lot of recipes including sour dough bread too!
I saw her site, too, but
I saw her site, too, but after I had already ordered. I'm sure they will be fine. It took me a few batches to get them going and I thought I was doing something wrong, but the grains are pretty hearty and after a few batches they were fine.
I haven't cooked much with the kefir, mostly because I just try to drink it to get the full benefit, but I bet it would be great in pancakes or bread!
Kefir
What is kefir? Is that something we ICer's tolerate?
list one
Can we have this on list one?
No it's definatly a later
No it's definatly a later stage thing. I would discuss it with Matia if you plan on trying it at some point. I know when i was doing the raw milk she said she normally does this on lists 3-4 but she gave me the go ahead to try on 2 with caution. it is an individual thing.
