I feel that this is something ALL of us should understand very well in order to get better. I recently purchased a book called "The Healing Crisis" used and in excellent condition for a whopping 3 dollars plus 3 dollars in shipping from Amazon. I could NOT put this book down. I wish I had it four years ago. It explains precisely what die off is and what our bodies are going through. I almost cried reading this book. I absolutely recommend you all purchase it and read it. Have your spouse read it to so they can understand. Here is an excerpt:
"Emotional disturbances are a threat to good health. The body's innate wisdom knows this and will remove emotional problems during the cleansing process. For those people who have had severe emotional crises in their lives, the thought of reepxperiencing them is disturbing. This is the time when people are most apt to break down and resume eating poor-quality foods. Perceptions become distored, feelings of discouragement arise, common sense is overriddden and priorites are realigned. Going on a food binge is a typical way of tyring to cope with these feelings. Good health doesn't seem to matter any more. Once these emotions are removed, good sense returns."
" Each physical state is accompanied by a pscyhological counterpart, and strictly psychotrauma or heavy emotional material is also reexperienced during the reversla and healing crisis process. [The doctor] has observed that a patient's ability to improve behaviorally is linked to the level of toxic accumulation. A healing process will clean pscyhological debris as well as physical toxins from the body"
THIS IS SOOO ME! For the longest time I thought I had no will power, no self discipline, I beat myself up over not sticking to the diet... It was not my fault entirely... I just was not aware of what was going on!!! I must be so full of toxins which encourages irrational thoughts and actions. I had no idea. This book is AMAZING and I cannot encourage you all enough to purchase. It explains so much as to what is going on in terms of scary symptoms and why they are GOOD and ENCOURAGING signs that our bodies ARE INDEED strong! If you get the book, I would love to hear your commentary! We could even do a book club... Let me know!
Does the book
Does the book focus only on the emotional part, or is there a lot of info on bodily symptoms?

book club
lets make this happen. who's interested? how does nicole set up those phone thingies?
ROCKIN
I will talk to Nicole about it... I am loving every moment of this book... It explains sooo much! I decided to take a day long break from my cleanse and I feel super energized today... I think it was just getting to be too much for my body to process... I am glad I did because I pooped twice today, no arm numbness, and no bladder pain and all sorts of weird stuff is coming out of my pee... This book really teaches you how to distinguish between a healing crisis (good) and an illness (bad) and how to listen to your body.... Let me know when you all have your books.
Sounds like I need this book too
Jeanette, who wrote it?
A naturopath ...
By the name of Bruce Fife... I guess he also has another book called the Detox Book....
Book
Got my book yesterday! Now I just need to find time to read it..
I just read this book! There
I just read this book! There were a few things I thought were interesting. I didnt realize that when are body stores fat that it can store so much toxins and even medications and illness which can make us sick again and bring up old symptoms as our body cleanses. I never really understood what Matia meant about "driving the illness deeper into our body" until reading this. The illness can actually go into our tissue and stay there simply from taking medication. It also helps me to understand more about my weight struggles being related to my IC. Whenever my IC is bad, I gain weight, no matter what. I think my digestive system just doesnt work right and I'm not able to detox at all. Whenever my IC better, I think my body is detoxing properly, and I lose weight without even trying. Has anyone else experienced weight struggles like this? My weight has been fluctuating within 10 pounds the last few months! Also, he gives examples of people who are very ill going on detox plans and making a total recovery within weeks. I was thinking my gosh! Why cant I just detox from this problem and be done with it!?! At the end of the book though, he explains that you may have several healing crisis's before making a recovery and that in severe cases it can last as long as 7 years. This was a real eye opener because to me, I always thought if you had die-off, then you would just be all better. So whenever I have it, I'm always like...no its not die-off because I know at some point I will be sick again. Its good to know that sometimes, it takes several "healing crisis's" to achieve results. Did you all read his other book about detox?
I also just
finished this book the other day. Thank you Jeanette for bringing it up. It was very interesting, and a very easy read. It really helps you understand more about die off, and makes you WANT to have it.Tawni, I have not read his other book, but kind of want to now too. I know what you mean about thinking " Hey why can't I just do a fast or something big and be better faster..." wish it could work that way, but good to know it doesn't always.
The Die Off Book by Bruce Fife
I too plan to order this book. In the interim, I have a question, is it confirmed in the book that whilst excreting toxins it can feel as though your IC symptoms are worse? I have had periods of die off during which eliminating the toxins was painless and liberating and then sometimes I have had increased inflammation and pain/urgency and I cannot tell if I am having a setback or if it is a healing crisis. Can anyone relate to this and provide details? It would sure help eliminate some of the madness! Thanks for the GREAT suggestion
