Please download and read the attached PDF on taxes.

Looks like we can deduct this stuff if we can get a note from a normal doc saying we need this treatment.  Anyone have a good relationship with a normal doc??

I have an appointment tomorrow with my accountant. Can you please give me more information about this. Where did you hear this? Is this something new from the stimulus package. I was told in the past that I could not deduct any of my supplements, herbs, Matia, etc. I spent over $700 to fedex my probiotics to Israel and I was told that I could not deduct this either. Do I need a prescriptioni from a medical doctor, how does this work??Eagerly awaiting your replyCecilia

I have the PDF file from the governemnt about what you can claim such as when you can claim supplements, food and such,
I need to attach it  to you to send though. Please email me through here and I will email you back with the PDF from my normal email.Anyone who wants to read it can email me, and I will email it to them.
Not all food can be claimed, these are the requirements for food:

Deducting Food As A Medical Expense

As a general rule, food is considered a non-deductible personal expense. Youcannot include the cost of special foods in medical expenses unless all three of the following requirements are met:

  • The foods do not satisfy normal nutritional needs.
  • The foods alleviate or treat an illness.
  • The need for the special foods is substantiated by a physician.
  •

If you do meet all three requirements for deducting special diet foods, the amount you can include in medical expenses is still limited to the amount by which the cost of the special diet foods exceed the cost of a normal diet.

I never considered this b/c I did not think Matia would be considered a physician by my medical insurance or the government.  Am I wrong on this?icnot4me
