cannabis

I'm expecting some strong opinions on this one but as my desperation for sleep continues I'm wondering if anyone has ever tried cannabis to help with pain, muscle spasms and disruptions to sleep due to urination.

Missmadmolly- I am so sorry you are still struggling with this!!!

I have no idea what matia would think about marijuana because it is an herb but I definitely feel it is beneficial in other illnesses and certainly less destructive than a lot of mainstream pharmaceuticals. Before I found Matia- i thought of trying it to see if it helped.

Have you asked her what she thinks?

thanks for your reply - no I havent yet but I've got a good idea what she'd say and I shouldn't think it would be positive.

Unfortunately, Matia will definitely say to stay away from cannabis. It is terribly hard on the bladder, and pretty toxic. You should talk with Matia about this, because her reasons why make a lot of sense, and I have come to view this herb in a totally different light since starting treatment.

Obviously, I don't know your situation or where you are in your treatment, but for me personally, trying this route made my bladder 100 times worse.

I used to smoke quite a bit before IC struck and while Matia told me that she didn't think it necessarily contributed to getting sick, that I definitely couldn't continue. Fortunately (or not) I had stopped altogether before seeing Matia because every time I smoked it made my symptoms worse. I thought at the time it was a mental thing- that the cannabis just made me more sensitive and aware of my body, but after reading Murphy's post I am thinking it might just be the herb is too strong. For me, there were absolutely no benefits to smoking, only negative.

Thank you so much for your honest responses.  I'm sure that there will be side effects on an IC body in using something like cannabis and it's fair to say my desperation for an uniterrupted night's sleep is causing me to look for solutions that I wouldn't normally consider.
I've given up cigarette smoking as of course nicotine was irritating my bladder terribly but I was wondering whether ingesting cannabis would cause less side effects.. But yes I'm in agreeance that the herb is very strong and being a stimulant would cause reactions which could affect the bodies recovery process.
I will endeavour to find a natural product which will calm my twitchy bladder at night and let me get some much needed sleep although I'm sure if something existed we would know of it.  I'm loathed to go back to conventional methods and medicines but if i am to get well - i will need sleep.

...and yes, what everyone is saying is true.
Matia explained that all smoking is detrimental to the immune system and inflammatory, thereby causing increased irritation. Smoking, not just necessarily marijuana, creates toxicity in the body, limiting the body's ability to heal.
I gave up alcohol before marijuana (prior to beginning to see Matia) and though it helped me cope with stress and allowed me to sleep a little better, it definitely aggravated my symptoms, and really contributed to my mental haziness.
I also asked her about ingesting marijuana, and she didn't have anything conclusive to say, as she hasn't studied it. She said it's 50-50; it could be harmful or it could be benign, she just isn't sure and doesn't think it's worth the gamble.
